These are some changes to the type-chart to give some types a well deserved buff (and consequently some others a debuff) with hopefully understandable reasons for the changes.
The Red boxes are changes I’m pretty sure of, the yellow ones are more of a might-as-well kinda thing.
I’ll break down the changes by type with a brief explanation why:
First, the Types that got buffed.
Grass:
Decided to give it Fairy Immunity (fairies are often considered nature spirits and Grass really needed the boost) and also made it Neutralto Flying (Trees aren’t weak to birds, come on now).
Bug:
Receives Resistance to Fairy (part of nature too), Resistance to Psychic (bug minds are too alien to affect with psychic power). Furthermore, Bug should do Neutral Damage to Ghost (Death does not safe you from the creepy-crawlies).
Also considered Neutral to Fighting & Neutral Damage to Fighting (According to Terra Formars Bug and Fighting are not mutually resistant, I think)respectively but I’m not too sure about it.
Ice:
Receives Resistance to Water (mostly cause Water is resistant to Ice) and Resistance to Electric (Ice is a bad conductor) so that it has more than one Resistance. Additionally, I also let it deal Neutral Damage to Steel (Metal isn’t that much more resistant to frost than rocks are, and honestly Steel Type can take the L).
Rock:
I made it Neutral to Water (erosion isn’t that fast), just to further differentiate it from Ground and to make it more defensive.
Poison:
Mutual Weakness to Water & Double Damage to Water (Poison is diluted by water, and water is made impure by poison).
Also gave it Resistance to Fire (poison isn’t very flammable), but this is more to cancel out a strength fire receives later.
Now the Types that got a bit weaker (largely as a result of the other types getting buffed).
Electric:
Only has one weakness, so I gave it a Weakness to Ghost (batteries are drained during supernatural activity, devices start to go haywire) and for more interesting interactions between types. Halved Damage to Ice (Ice is a bad conductor), but Double Damage to Steel (Metal is a good conductor).
Ghost:
See above, Neutral to Bug (Death does not safe you from the creepy-crawlies) and Double Damage to Electric (batteries are drained during supernatural activity, devices start to go haywire).
Ghosts shouldn’t be weak to ghosts in my opinion, so I made it Neutral to Ghost (now it’s offensively even more different from Dark type too), and to balance out that it had only one weakness left I gave it a Weakness to Fire (Fire purifies, used in exorcism).
Flying:
See above, Neutral Damageto Grass (#Treesweep).
Water:
Mutual Weakness to Poison & Double Damage to Poison (Poison is diluted by water, and water is made impure by poison).
Neutral Damage to Rock (Diamond is Unbreakable) and Halved Damage to Ice (I’m sure water can let ice have this W).
Today’s biggest losers, or Types that got weaker to buff the others.
Fairy:
Lost offensively to help the poor unfortunate Grass and Bug Types.
No Damage to Grass (W for Wo-Chien) and Halved Damage to Bug (too cute to hurt).
Steel:
Lost two resistances and gained one weakness, but is still the type with the best resistance to weakness ratio, so I don’t feel as bad about it as I do with Fairy.
Weakness to Electric (start conducting bitch), Neutral to Ice (Ice deserves the love) and Neutral to Psychic (never understand why it had resistance, but this is also to balance out that bug is now resistant to psychic).
And finally, Types whose losses and gains balance each other out.
Fighting:
This change had no reason besides making both fighting and bug more offensive; Neutral to Bug & Neutral Damage to Bug (Wrestling and Insect Fighting is basically the same).
Fire:
Halved Damage to Poison to balance out the newly gained Double Damage to Ghost (sooner or later, all things will burn).
Psychic:
Halved Damage to Bug (Humans < Bugs), and Neutral Damage to Steel (they literally use a metal spoon to amplify their psychic powers).
And finally (take two), Types that remained the same:
Normal, Ground, Dark and Dragon.

Literally right after I saw this post, I saw another post in a discord chat for BOOK EDITORS in which an outspokenly liberal editor talked about how Nabokov should have never been published because he wrote about p*dophiles and described women’s bodies in ways that made her uncomfortable. She described his writing as “objectively terrible” and said she wanted to burn his books. And other editors were bringing up classics they didn’t like and talking about how they wanted to throw them in the trash. This wasn’t like a light “unpopular opinion!” conversation. This was actual book editors talking about how books should be destroyed and censored.
There is something so scary and toxic in global culture right now. The revival of fascism is influencing everyone’s mindset and approach to art, regardless of where they fall on the political spectrum.
I see far more books being censored today than when I was a kid. Librarians handed me The Catcher in the Rye, The Sexual Politics of Meat, and Animal Farm when I was literally 8-11. My mom would never have taken a book away from me. I read everything from the Tao Te Ching to the Qur'an to atheist texts under my desk at school. Teachers thought nothing of it or encouraged it. Books seemed universally acknowledged as sacrosanct to me.
Now I can’t find any adults who don’t hesitate or want to make exceptions when it comes to censorship. Even the most liberal social activist librarians I know go, “well except for book X…”
Functionally conservative. It’s so important to have the language to express that.

The only reason a book should be removed, the ONLY reason, is “we are keeping it in the restricted section for research because its only intended function is to cause harm.”
And to be clear, when I say this, I’m talking about shit like To Train Up A Child and The Protocols of Zion. One is a text responsible for the deaths of multiple children because it’s an abuse how-to, and the other is entirely fabricated “protocols” from a group that never actually existed but is claimed to represent all Jews, and it’s basically one long antisemitic screed.
And even these should be available. Just. Not where they’re gonna be used to start a white supremacist cult.
